Your privacy
Plain English about what this site collects, what it does not, and what you can do about it.
This is a publishing site. We do not host a converter, we never receive your PDFs, and we ask for as little information about you as a website reasonably can.
Documents you convert
Nothing you convert passes through us. We do not run an upload form, a conversion engine, or any file storage. When you follow a link to a tool we have written about, whatever you upload there is governed entirely by that company's own privacy policy and terms — worth reading before you send it anything confidential, especially a financial statement.
Information we collect
We do not ask you to create an account, and there is no newsletter sign-up or contact form collecting your details. The information that reaches us falls into two ordinary categories:
- Server and analytics data. Like nearly every website, requests to this site produce technical records — approximate location derived from IP address, browser and device type, the page you requested, and the page that referred you. We use this in aggregate to understand which articles are useful and whether the site is working.
- Anything you email us. If you write to [email protected], we keep that message so we can reply and, where relevant, correct an article. We do not add your address to any marketing list.
We do not knowingly collect information from children, and we do not sell personal information to anyone.
Cookies and analytics
We use a small cookie to remember that you dismissed the cookie notice, so it does not reappear on every page. That preference is stored in your own browser.
We may also use a third-party analytics service to count visits and see which pages get read. Analytics of this kind sets its own cookies or identifiers and reports to us only in aggregate — we cannot see who any individual visitor is. Affiliate partners may likewise set a cookie when you follow one of our links, so that a resulting purchase is attributed to this site.
Every browser lets you block or delete cookies, and most offer a "do not track" or tracking-protection setting. Blocking cookies here will not stop you reading anything; at worst the cookie notice will reappear.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links are affiliate links, described in full on our about page. Following one may pass a referral identifier to the destination site. It does not pass your name, your email address, or anything about the documents you work with — we do not have those to pass.
Third parties
This site links out to software vendors, documentation, and other publications. Once you leave, you are on their infrastructure and under their policies. We cannot control how other companies handle your data, and a link is not an endorsement of their privacy practices.
Your choices
Depending on where you live, you may have a right to ask what personal information a site holds about you, to request its deletion, or to object to certain processing. Because we hold so little — essentially aggregate analytics and any email you have sent us — those requests are usually simple to answer. Write to [email protected] and we will respond as promptly as we can.
Changes to this policy
If we change how the site handles data, we will update this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised policy, so it is worth a look if you are returning after a long gap.
